Dark Nights.

The dark night of the soul is a unique and challenging part of the spiritual life. Often catalyzed by an experience of significant loss, the journey includes disillusionment, disorientation, and grief.

The pain and suffering is real. Yet in these times, there is an invitation to an experience of love that not contingent on our senses, or tangible things. Rather love becomes real to us simply because it is.

Short Film.

The Dark Night short film is a 24 minute communal journey featuring documentary footage from Dark Night Live and participant stories, told in their own voices, of enduring the night and encountering hope.

The Dark Night short film is currently in production. You can help bring it to life by contributing to the crowdfund today.

Live.

August 8, 2025, tap dance artist Andrew Nemr attempted a 12-hour overnight solo improvised tap dance. This had never been done before. Creating a space for the encounter, reflection, and honoring of the enduring spirit within us all, Dark Night Live became something more than a performance – it became a sacred space.

Reflection.

The Dark Night Project creates opportunities for reflection through live events, film screenings, podcasts, and talks.

Podcast.

A 12-part limited series featuring Pastor Mike Freeman and artist Andrew Nemr journeying through St. John of the Cross's quintessential work, Dark Night of the Soul.

The podcast was recorded over six months during preparation and in the aftermath of Dark Night Live.

The Nemr Institute is a registered 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit.
