Any institution sits upon a foundation. At the Nemr Institute there are some thoughts – even ways of thinking – that inform our endeavors.
When engaging in seemingly complex ideas like spiritual formation and creativity, it is important to share these thoughts and ways of thinking.
After all, how we think is a primary factor in who we ultimately become.
One of the questions behind an exploration of Spiritual formation is, "Can I change?" or more generally, "Can things be different?"
If our answer is yes, how we think such changes happen will dictate our further pursuit.
At the Nemr Institute we believe that deep transformational change is possible, and that one way to experience this is to engage with the ongoing journey of spiritual formation that is already happening within us.
This includes acknowledging moments of inspiration, intentional experimentation and application, and thoughtful integration. All this, patiently done within a principle of in-direct action, specific teaching, and a relational context of love.
Every theory of change is supported by specific propositions. For as much as we might see, understand, or experience, the specificity of these propositions helps us do so.
At the Nemr Institute we begin with the specific propositions of Jesus Christ, including but not limited to the following:
Spiritual formation is a journey. It is an adventure we go on, sometimes with other journeyers – an individual experience with plenty of social connections involved.
At any given moment we might have a particular experience – and consider it the totality of our lot. In reality, there is a new day, new mercies, new discoveries, and new newness to be a part of.
With this in mind, we aim to engage the journey – to walk alongside, encourage, offer, sit with, check-in – honoring the process, and all the people involved.
